New York: On the eve of the inauguration of
Donald J. Trump as the 45th president of the United States, thousands of
protesters took to the streets and held protest outside the Trump Tower in New
York City.
American actor Robert De Niro, American documentary
filmmaker Michael Moore, American actor, writer, producer and comedian Alec
Baldwin and New York Mayor Bill De Blasio were also present in the protest. The protesters were holding placards which
read "Stop Trump/Pence Fascist Regime", "Keep your laws off my
body" and raised other anti-Trump slogans. "I hope we talk to people
representing the government about the changes they want to make...about women's
right, racism. I think it's good that the people are being so active," one
of the protesters told ANI. Another protester alleged that Trump is uninformed
about the world, adding that the latter is entirely unfit for the presidential
post.
"He is also not much in favour of maintaining women's
rights. For that reason, we are very much against him," she added. Asserting
that Trump does not have ethics, one of the protesters said that the former has
to understand the challenges that America faces. "Americans never created problems...he
(Trump) created problems," he said. Days after Trump's victory in the US
presidential race, protesters gathered night after night, often at the base of
Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan. Trump will officially be sworn in as the 45th
president of the United States on Friday. More than nine lakh people are
expected to witness the swearing-in ceremony.
