India drug regulator issue antibiotic warnings
On the heels of the recent death
of an American women due to an antibiotic-resistant infection, the Drug
Controller General of India (DCGI) has issued strict warnings. DCGI has asked
retailers, chemists, drug-makers and pharma companies to stringently follow
norms laid down for prescribing and selling antibiotics.
Rampant over-the-counter use of
antibiotics is leading to dangerous levels of 'antimicrobial resistance'.
